Frequently asked questions about LifeInPocket® for BlackBerry

  1. Why LifeInPocket® cannot connect to Internet?
    If you have an unlocked device, you need to set APN in order to connect to Internet correctly. Your APN is set to original carrier's APN by BlackBerry system software, you need to change it to new carrier's APN manually.
    BlackBerry home > Advanced > TCP
    You need to change all APN settings in this page to new carrier's APN settings. Please ask your new carrier to provide APN settings and help you to change accordingly!
    Otherwise this is unusual, it should be install and go! Did you grant all permissions/trusted app status when asked during installation? If you did then this is likely memory, port or resources possessed by other apps. Pull the battery and you may free up those resources.! If it doesn't work then you will need to delete our app, pull the battery then re-install so you can release ports, memory and API's possessed by other apps. If this occurred again, you will need to delete apps that has memory leak or possessing ports while do not release ports when not using it.
    Assuming this is not a corporate device connecting through fire wall. If it is then you need to talk to you IT department to change IT policy in your phone.

  2. GPS is not working, what did I do wrong?
    It should be an install and go experience. Did you grant all permissions/trusted app status when asked? You need to make sure that you have the internal GPS on. You can check this at
    Blackberry home à Settings --> Advanced --> GPS
    You also need to permitting LifeInPocket® to access GPS and network, you can change permissions at
    Blackberry home Settings --> Advanced --> Applications --> LifeInPocket® --> Permissions
    You will need to make sure that you exit all other applications that use GPS function (they may still occupies GPS port), so apps are known to block other applications' GPS access even they are closed. Of cause, your phone needs to view open sky in order to receive signal from multiple satellites. In some cases, you would need to delete our app, pull the battery then re-install LifeinPocket.
    You can perform below test to make sure your BB's GPS works.
    1 make sure you are outside or in your car
    2 go into options on your blackberry
    4 click on status
    5 type the word "test"
    6 Hit the menu button
    7 click start
    8 check the check box for GPS
    9 click run
    Wait a few moments (usually it isn't too long. Then it will say successful if GPS works.

  3. Cannot sign-in with Storm1/2 because I cannot move highlight to desired text entry area.
    This is a known BlackBerry OS bug, to enter text, you must touch ":" (the beginning of each text field) with left thumb to move cursor because current Storm2 OS can only detect your touch in these areas.

  4. I can sign-in on my PC but, with the same ID and PASSWORD trying to login on my phone, I got invalid user name or password!
    Both user name and password are case sensitive while BlackBerry capitalize the first letter you entered. Please double check!

  5. Got "Error starting LifeInPocket: Module ... attempt to access a security API " after installation, how to solve this problem?
    Start from 0.68 release, WiFi is supported while carriers may provision WiFi differently to cause problem as you download through their gateway by using carrier's browser such as MediaNet.
    You can solve problem by following steps,
    Delete LifeInPocket then go to,
    Option > Advanced > Browser
    Set BlackBerry (or Hotspot browser) then download again.

  6. Why I have never received my download link by SMS?
    Please make sure that you select “download to phone” (instead of download to PC)! Also sign in then select “User Profile” link to make sure you selected the right carrier and entered correct phone number. You should have received SMS with download link. If you don’t, you can type the link or copy and paste the link then send to your mobile email .

  7. Why I cannot get GPS?
    You need to make sure that you have the internal GPS on. You can check this at
    Blackberry home à Settings --> Advanced --> GPS
    You also need to permitting LifeInPocket® to access GPS and network, you can change permissions at
    Blackberry home à Settings --> Advanced --> Applications --> LifeInPocket® --> Permissions
    You will need to make sure that you exit all other applications that use GPS function (they may still working on the background which occupies GPS port), applications such as UberTwitter is known to block other applications' GPS access even they are closed. Of cause, your phone need to view open sky in order to receive signal from multiple satellites

  8. Why it always gives me 'network error' when trying to log in?
    You must permit LifeInPocket® to access LifeInPocket® and other sites by HTTP when started the application otherwise you won’t be able to access our server and other services. You won’t be able to sign-in by phone. You can also change permission clicking on BlackBerry’s  “Settings” icon,
    Settings --> Advanced --> Applications --> LifeInPocket® --> Permissions

  9. Why I encountered "909 Authentication Error" while downloading to BlackBerry?
    Sign-in to your PC web account then select "User Profile" to make sure you selected "BlackBerry" and correct model first because you will get this error message when downloading LifeInPocket for other phones.
    If you selected Blackberry as your phone maker and correct model then this is a known BlackBerry OS bug and RIM has a work around, please see

  10. I upgraded to a Tour 9630 and lost my info. What should I do?
    LifeInPocket® is personalized and synced, once you sign in to your new phone's LifeInPocket® , it will sync all your previous settings and personalization to your new phone. You can also select sync. icon to sync. Anytime. Sign in to
    https://www.lifeinpocket.com/html/ to change your personalization. Go to password recovery centerid recovery center to recover your password or LifeInPocket ID

  11. Do I stay in connection with the server the whole time while I am navigating?
    LifeInPocket is the most reliable mobile navigation engine, part of the reason is we have very little reliance on cellular network. We connect to network, only to calculate the route; which is generally no more than a few seconds. If the route needs to be recalculated because you have changed your plans or ignored the directions, you would need to connect with our server again. On the contrary, other navigation applications have to connect to the server via unreliable cellular network all the time which induces problems and drain battery quickly.

  12. I downloaded & installed LifeInPocket to my Storm. In starts up, it won't let me select anything in the opening menu.

    LifeInPocket for Storm is designed for touch screen interface while in rare case, Storm OS’s bug force apps to run under compatibility mode which is for those apps without touch screen support. You need to disable compatibility mode. Options>Applications>highlight (don't click) LifeInPocket. Hit BB button then disable compatibility mode. If still not working, do a Battery pull before and after prescribed steps.

  13. During upgrade I get this error: 907 Invalid COD Illegal host string (or Java exception etc.).
    These errors are caused by a known problem in the BlackBerry OS. To resolve this problem, you will need to uninstall the older version of LifeInPocket and reboot the phone. Then you will be able to install the newer version of LifeInPocket.

  14. My BlackBerry does not have Internal GPS, how do I pair it with external Bluetooth GPS Receiver..
